In this episode, a large blast at a gas company gives the CSI team further confirmation in their investigation into the murders of two men who were about to accuse the company of poisoning the water in a farming town.

CSI is an inventive, new type of crime drama because the characters use cutting-edge forensic tools to study the evidence to solve the case. Rather than a 'whodunnit' cop show (investigating witnesses/suspects), CSI explores the 'howdunnit'. CSI has been the number one scripted series in the Neilsen ratings for four years running. In 2007 nearly 84 million people watched CSI, making it the most watched show in the world. CSI is now in its 10th amazing season.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Productions, which became CBS Paramount Television in the fall of 2006. Formerly a co-production with the now-defunct Alliance Atlantis Communications, that company's interest in the series is now owned by investment firm GS Capital Partners, an affiliate of Goldman Sachs. In this episode, when a resentful lawyer hires an obsessed bomb maker to kill off members of a local gang, Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) is forced to intervene before innocent lives are lost in the mayhem. This week, at least, the standalone case is also uneven. Michael was shot in the chest in the summer finale, and he spends much of the premiere moving very gingerly and against doctor's orders as he tries to stop a serial bomber. But his incapacitation comes and goes depending on the needs of the plot. In one scene, he struggles to pick a lock one-handed, while in another, his limited mobility in no way interferes with his ability to outfight a larger, well-trained goon. It also feels a bit light on the voiceover spycraft tips that always set the show apart from a more standard detective show.

"Burn Notice" maker Matt Nix has always had a hard challenge with those arcs. USA wants each episode to be largely self-contained - a plan that's paid-off handsomely in the ratings, where "Burn Notice" is one of the biggest hits on cable - which means Nix has to devote most of each hour to showing Michael and friends Sam (Bruce Campbell) and Fi (Gabrielle Anwar) working as freelance do-gooders in the greater Miami area. That leaves only a few minutes (usually at the start and end of each episode) to address Michael's ongoing quest to...

Once upon a time, Michael was trying to find the people who got him blackballed from the espionage game, but he found them a couple of seasons ago. Then there was a stretch where the arc was about all of Michael's old enemies coming after him, but only kinda-sorta, and then Michael was trying to come back in from the cold, and then trying to stop a British assassin's nebulous plot, and then... something involving another spy, Jesse (Coby Bell) whom Michael himself accidentally burned.

Between the minimal amount of time spent on these stories and the way Nix keeps moving the goalposts for Michael, I've completely lost track of what it is Michael's trying to accomplish beyond the day-to-day. And the mid-season premiere, which features several jarring changes in agenda, finally made me throw up my hands and plan to mentally tune out those scenes going forward.

Burn Notice has settled into a comfortable but highly entertaining pattern, with continually twisty plots featuring the central characters' efforts to help others while attempting to extricate protagonist Michael Westen (Jeffrey Donovan) from his government-imposed exile. A master former CIA agent, Westen has been "burned" by the agency and forced to live outside the law without any prospects of a relatively normal life until he can clear his name.

Burn Notice is essentially a serious show laced with much humor and creativity, Psych has always been basically a comedy with mystery stories as its structural conceit. Sometimes the mysteries have been very sound, and they're usually at least diverting, though sometimes the story seems rather an afterthought.

The series title describes the burn notices issued by way of intelligence agencies to discredit as well as announce the dismissal of agents or sources who will be considered to have become hard to rely on. When spies are burned, their connection to an espionage organization is terminated, leaving them without having access to cash or influence. The idea of Bones was developed during the latter part of the pitching season of 2004 when 20th Century Fox approached series creator Hart Hanson with an idea for a forensics show. Hanson was asked to meet with executive producer Barry Josephson, who had purchased the rights to produce a documentary on the forensic anthropologist and author Kathy Reichs. Although Hanson was reluctant about being involved in making a police procedural, he signed on and wrote the pilot episode after having an intensive meeting with Josephson about the show. As the show is based on the works of Reichs, the writers constantly involve her in the process of producing the episodes' story lines.

It show is about two imaginary Caltech geniuses, one an experimental physicist (Leonard Hofstadter ) and the other a theoretical physicist (Sheldon Cooper ), who live across the hall from an attractive blonde waitress and aspiring actress (Penny ). Leonard and Sheldon's geekiness and intelligence are contrasted for comic effect with Penny's social skills and common sense. An aerospace engineer, non-PHD, (Howard Wolowitz) and a particle astrophysicist (Rajesh Koothrappali) are their equally geeky and socially awkward co-workers and friends.
The first pilot of the show developed for the 2006–07 television season, was substantially different from its current form. Only Johnny Galecki and Jim Parsons were in the cast. The he female lead, Katie, was envisioned as "a street-hardened, tough-as-nails woman with a vulnerable interior". Katie was played by actress Amanda Walsh. They also had a female friend called Gilda (played by Iris Bahr). The show's original theme music was also different, using Thomas Dolby's hit "She Blinded Me With Science". The show was not picked up, but the creators were given an opportunity to revise the show, bringing in the remaining leading cast and retooling the show to its current format. The original unaired pilot has never been released on any official format, but copies are available on the Internet. On the evolution of the show, Lorre said "We did the 'Big Bang Pilot' about two and a half years ago, and it sucked... but there were two remarkable things that worked perfectly, and that was Johnny and Jim. We rewrote the thing entirely, and then we were blessed with Kaley and Simon and Kunal." As to whether the world will ever see that original pilot, maybe on a DVD, Lorre said "Wow that would be something, we will see. Show your failures..."

The next pilot was directed by James Burrows, who did not continue with the show. This reworked pilot led to a 13-episode order by CBS on May 14, 2007. Prior to its airing on CBS, the pilot episode was distributed on iTunes free of charge. The show premiered September 24, 2007, and was picked-up for a full 22-episode season on October 19, 2007.

David Saltzberg, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles, checks scripts and provides dialogue, math equations, and diagrams used as props. According to executive producer/co-creator Bill Prady, "We're working on giving Sheldon an actual problem that he's going to be working on throughout the [first] season so there's actual progress to the boards ... We worked hard to get all the science right.

Barenaked Ladies wrote and recorded the theme song, which describes the development of the universe and the changes that Earth and humans have undergone since the dawn of time. On October 9, 2007, a full-length (1 minute and 45 seconds) version of the song was released.
