A SPECK of the mineral zircon that's older than any yet found on Earth has been recovered from a rock sample brought back by Apollo 17 astronauts. The grain has helped pinpoint the age at which the molten moon solidified.

Lunar zircons were not studied at the time of the Apollo missions because the technology to date them did not exist, says geologist Clive Neal of the University of Notre Dame, Indiana. "It's serendipitous to find this, and really emphasises the [value] of sample returns," he says.

Until now, the zircon found in lunar rocks was between 3.90 and 4.35 billion years old, the same as the oldest zircon found on Earth. But many of these lunar grains came from low-lying areas on the moon, where the crust had been resurfaced after being melted by meteorite impacts.

The new sample, found by Alexander Nemchin at Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia, and colleagues, is 4.42 billion years old, and came from the lunar highlands. That means it crystallised after the crust first solidified, within 100 million years of the moon's formation (Nature Geoscience, DOI: 10.1038/NGEO417).

New York City's 66th Annual Columbus Day Parade will feature classic and contemporary Maseratis, including the 1931 V4 Zagato, 1953 A6GCS, 1956 300S, 1960 5000GT, 1970 Ghibli SS and the 2010 Gran Turismo Convertibles.

The parade runs up Fifth Avenue from 47th Street to 72nd Street. It starts at 11:45 a.m. and will finish at about 3:00 p.m.

A Maserati Gran Turismo is on view in Grand Central and will be raffled off on October 15 at 6:00 p.m. Tickets for the raffle cost $1,000 and are limited to 400 tickets. Proceeds will benefit the Columbus Citizens Foundation's scholarship funds.

Show creator Jackson Publick (a pseudonym of Christopher McCulloch)was one of the main writers for the Saturday morning animated series The Tick. Ben Edlund, creator of The Tick, has co-written two episodes of The Venture Bros. and written one full episode, "¡Viva los Muertos!". Patrick Warburton, who played the Tick in the short-lived Fox Broadcasting Tick live-action TV series, provides the voice of Brock Samson.

McCulloch created The Venture Bros. storyline sometime prior to 2000.[citation needed] After working for the television program Sheep in the Big City and the live-action version of The Tick, McCulloch set to turning The Venture Bros. into an animated series. The Venture Bros. was originally conceived as a comic book story for an issue of Monkeysuit. McCulloch realized that his notes were too extensive for a short comics story and proposed that Comedy Central air The Venture Bros. as an animated series, but the network rejected it. Although the first draft of the pilot script was written in the spring of 2000, the premise was not greenlit until around the summer of 2002 by Adult Swim. McCulloch had not previously considered Cartoon Network because he "didn't want to tone The Venture Bros. down" and was unaware of the existence of the network's Adult Swim sub-unit. With the revised pilot, production began in autumn of that year and the pilot was first run on February 16, 2003. The first season of the series was completed in 2004 and it was added to the summer schedule in August.

The Venture Bros. is an American animated television series that premiered on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim on February 16, 2003. The series mixes action and comedy together while it chronicles the adventures of the Venture family: well-meaning but incompetent teenagers Hank and Dean Venture; their emotionally insecure, ethically challenged super-scientist father Dr. Thaddeus "Rusty" Venture; the family's bodyguard, originally the ultra-violent and macho secret agent Brock Samson and his later replacement, reformed super villain and "cured" pedophile Sergeant Hatred; and the family's self-proclaimed arch-nemesis, the Monarch, a butterfly-themed super villain.

"Mad Men," the penultimate episode of Season 4, was a study in desperation. To save his firm, Don pulled out all the stops in an unsuccessful attempt to win over a representative from Heinz—then threw a Hail Mary pass in the form of a divisive ad for SCDP in the New York Times. He and his business partners resorted to digging into their own pockets to fund their rapidly deflating firm. Betty clung to her daughter's child psychiatrist, then told Henry she was finally ready to move out of the Draper house—just so she could get Sally away from creepy Glenn. And Midge, Don's ex-lover, tracked down her former sugar daddy so that she could convince him to give her drug money.

Desperation doesn't suit Don Draper. Raymond, the man from Heinz, rejects the ad man because he's not sure if SCDP will be around in six months—and because Don's trying much too hard to please. "I could get a date with your mother right now," Raymond jokes uneasily before he leaves. It seems like things may be looking up, though, when Don gets back to the office. Philip Morris is introducing a new brand of cigarettes for young women, and they want to meet with SCDP about a possible campaign.

Don's day takes another turn when he runs into bohemian Midge, his mistress from Season 1, in the lobby of the Time-Life building. She acts surprised to see him, then invites him to come over to her place. Though Don balks at first, Midge then mentions that she has a husband now, and he agrees to go home with her.

Harry, Midge's mustached mate, is a playwright who soon reveals himself to be no good. When Midge steps away, Harry shows Don one of her abstract paintings and offers to see it for whatever Don would like to pay. That's when things start to get weird: "She digs you, and I can tell you—she'd do anything if you bought one," Harry says. Don looks increasingly uncomfortable as Harry lets him know that his bumping into Midge was no accident: she'd been tracking him.

The truth of the matter is that Harry is addicted to heroin—and he's gotten Midge hooked too. She tells Don she can't stop; apparently, doing smack is a "full-time job." Out of pity, Don writes her a check for $300. When she responds by asking him what good a check will do her, he rips it up and gives her a stack of bills instead. "Glad you haven't changed," she tells him before he goes, taking her sad painting along with him.

He's dealt another blow the next day, when the reps from Marlboro cancel their meeting with SCDP. As a last-ditch measure, Lane informs his partners that each of them is going to have to contribute a pretty penny to keep the company afloat for at least six months—and even then, they're going to have to let several employees go. Everyone agrees to this, except Pete, who doesn't have the $50,000 Lane is asking of him. (When he tells Trudy about the contribution, she responds with fury: "I forbid you from giving anything more to that company!" In the end, Lane informs Pete that Don has quietly paid both of their shares.)

That evening, though, after staring at Midge's painting for a good, long while, Don comes up with a possibly brilliant, possibly suicidal plan to save his agency. He writes an impassioned, misleading screed, saying that SCDP has "ended" a long relationship with Lucky Strike—and that now, they will never work for another tobacco company again. According to Don, they no longer wish to try to sell a product that kills its customers. He even appropriates Midge's language in the piece, saying SCDP always knew working with Lucky Strike "wasn't good for us—but we couldn't stop." He ends by naming a list of companies that do good cigarette advertising, then inviting all other businesses to get in touch with him. Then Don types up his manifesto and mails it to the New York Times, where it runs as a full-page ad for SCDP.

The next day, the office is abuzz with calls for Don, both serious and mocking; Ted Chaough's prank call, in which he does an extremely exaggerated Robert Kennedy impression, is a highlight. Meanwhile, Don's partners are all livid, albeit for slightly different reasons. Pete thinks the ad was selfish; Lane think it effectively euthanized the firm; Bert is upset he didn't include all of their names at its end. In fact, Cooper is so angry that he decides to leave the company altogether, though he's so eccentric we're guessing this decision may be rescinded.

As a consequence of the ad, Faye's firm decides to cut its ties with SCDP. There's a silver lining to this in her eyes—now that she and Don are no longer working together, they don't have to hide their relationship. Additionally, as the partners learn the next day, the American Cancer Society wants to talk to them about creating an anti-smoking campaign; ironic, since everyone in the office is still lighting up. Though Roger's predictably dismissive, Don notes that at least it's business—and according to Ken, there are a lot of "bigwigs" on the organization's board.

But despite this quasi-reinvigoration, SCDP is still close to bankruptcy. That means several employees, including diminutive Danny, must be let go. The episode ends as Don pauses between firings to stare at a group of ousted employees, just as he searched for meaning in Midge's painting.

We've got no idea what might happen in the season finale, since AMC's preview for next week's show was just a montage of moments from earlier this season. Do you think SCDP will survive somehow?

Years after he turned his back on his hometown, a burned-out major league ballplayer returns to teach physical education at his old middle school. While not based on the life of former Major League Baseball relief pitcher John Rocker, the show's creators do cite him as an inspiration. Notably, both Rocker and McBride were born in Statesboro, Georgia.

Production on the second season of the show began in May 2010. The setting will move to Mexico, with shooting occurring in Puerto Rico. The new season will bring changes to the cast, including new faces Michael Peña and Ana de la Reguera, who play the owner of a Mexican baseball team and Kenny's new love interest, respectively. The role of Kenny's father is planned but not yet cast. All of the supporting cast from the first season will be absent or make cameo appearances. The only exception is Steve Little as Stevie Janowski, who tracks Kenny down in Mexico. Ben Best is apparently not a writer on the new season but according to McBride he will return in a small a part as Clegg.

According to an article in Vice magazine, the season will be seven episodes long. The article includes a photo from the set in Puerto Rico of actor Steve Little and Deep Roy, who joined the cast as one of Kenny's new sidekicks named Aaron. The Times & Citizen newspaper also reported that Shaun Bavington is to play Shaun Withnail, though the character's role has not been announced. The Mexican baseball team owned by Pena's character Sebastian Cisneros is said to be called The Charros and coached by a man named Roger played by actor Marco Rodriguez. Co-director Jody Hill reportedly described the season as "a cross between the films Amores perros and The Bad News Bears" and says it will mirror the look and feel of a feature film. Hill is said to be directing four episodes in season two, while David Gordon Green is directing three.

Season Two premiere will air on September 26, 2010. In apparently the first mini-review of the new season, Vice magazine reported on August 31, 2010 that "it's worthy of the original and is its own different, more somber beast." On September 24, 2010 it was revealed in an extensive set visit report in Vice magazine that the series makers had considered setting the second season in America. According to Danny McBride, "And at one point, we considered opening on a shot of the big sombrero at South of the Border, so you think Kenny's in Mexico. And then he would have said [voice-over tone], 'I went down to the butthole of the Carolinas.' [laughs] We actually thought about setting the entire season in Myrtle Beach instead of in Mexico. I gotta say, the Myrtle Beach idea was pretty brilliant. It would have really been something. Maybe he ends up there next season. [beat] Who knows?"

As the episode starts off, their first clue directs them to Jamestown, found across the town in Ghana. Once they get there, they have to find the boxing academy where they'll find their next clue.

Brooke & Claire, who got to leave first, are the first ones there. It's a Roadblock, so only one of them does the challenge. Team members must put on sparing gloves, use a punching bag and jump rope for a set amount of time in order to get their next clue. Pretty straight forward. Brooke & Claire finish first, followed by Chad & Stephannie, Katie & Rachel, and Conner & Jonathon.

Connor & Jonathan arrive to the next clue first. Why don't they sing about it? Teams must bring wheelbarrows full of cement mix and a few other items to a school in order to get their next clue. Once they do so, they have a pop quiz where they must join a class and properly label Ghana on a world map.

Their next clue is a detour. Bicycle Parts or Language Arts. Teams must choose between two tasks: In the first, teams must find the decoder key shows them the symbols they need to find on a huge map on the wall. In the second option, teams must find a stick and run a wheel like a bike wheel down a field using their stick. Once they complete either task, they follow the marked path to the pitstop. Jonathon and Conner do the first option and complete it pretty quickly. They get to the pitstop first and get $5,000 to enjoy at the end of the race.

Gary & Mallory are team number two, while Chad & Stephannie are team number three, and Katie & Rachel team number four.

Now onto the douchebag of the season. Nick (more like Prick) & Vicki. He is a total jerk to her the entire time: telling her to hurry up, essentially calling her stupid, swearing, you name it. I wan't until her asthma started kicking in that he started being supportive. Vicki is so sweet and can do much better than him. Shortly after they're the fifth team to arrive, followed by the shopping channel girls, Brook & Claire as team number six. Sidenote: No other team other than Connor & Jonathan found the decoder for the first option in the detour. Brooke & Claire actually thought the small African children had something to do with the code. "Oh, maybe the small African children don't have anything to do with it." HAHA. Yeesh. Jill & Thomas are team number seven, and Kat and Nat are lucky to be team number eight – especially after the nightmare cab driver they had that almost cost them the game (he kept driving even though they asked him to change course).

In Last place are Kevin & Michael. They're doing the bike wheel task when Michael is giving up. "I'm sorry, Kevin. I can't," he keeps repeating. He wanted to give up and was so frustrated it brought him to tears. Kevin stayed by his side and pushed him to go on. They made it through the task and lucky for them it was a non elimination round.

The seventh season of Desperate Housewives, a television series created by Marc Cherry, began airing on September 26, 2010
During its premiere season the show featured thirteen starring actors, all credited in the opening sequence. Michael K. Williams held an acting master class during Sunday's 'Boardwalk Empire.'

We're only about a third of the way into the show's 13-episode run. But in future, when we think of season 1 of 'Boardwalk Empire,' our minds are likely to return to this gripping scene.

As was the case on 'The Wire,' the character Williams plays on 'Boardwalk Empire' isn't bombastic or overtly threatening. Like Omar, the toughest of Baltimore's many tough characters, Chalky White is a character who is clearly intelligent and who has no reason to prove himself to anyone. These are characters who are completely confident of their abilities to master any situation, with their wits or with physical force. They don't need to try to inspire fear; their track records speak for themselves.

It was what Chalky didn't say in that scene that was so terrifying, and because Williams possesses such ample charisma, he didn't need to oversell anything in the terrific script from Lawrence Konner and Margaret Nagle. Chalky didn't make crude threats against the Klan leader or vent his fury at the man's repugnant racism. He simply told a story that made it very clear that he had no problem using any and all means to get the information he wanted.

Chalky didn't need to say, "I wouldn't mind killing you for sport," but he didn't need to.

It must have taken a certain amount of control for Chalky not to do that, considering the recent lynching of his employee, a murder that was reminiscent of his father's brutal demise. It didn't necessarily matter to Chalky whether this man had done the deed or not, but, like Nucky, Chalky is able to see the bigger picture. He won't take a course of action until he is sure it's the right one.

Self-control is not a big priority for the younger generation of gangsters, however. Lucky Luciano, sent to get information from Jimmy Darmody, instead acts on an attraction to Mrs. Darmody -- whom Luciano probably assumes is Jimmy's wife. This may upset the tangled relationships among Chicago, Atlantic City and New York factions even further, but Lucky can't stop himself, just as the impulsive Gillian can't stop herself from throwing attitude at the well-dressed gangster who knocked on Jimmy's door. Both Gillian and Lucky may have cause to regret their actions, but they only live in the moment. Planning, strategy? That's just not their style.

The most volatile personality belongs to Al Capone, who thinks nothing of firing a gun next to the head of his sleeping friend, Jimmy. Al is all bluster and provocation, with little regard for long-term planning. If Capone thinks territory is there for the taking, he takes it, consequences be damned. He may think he's tougher than Sheridan, the Irish boss of Chicago, but as Jimmy tries to point out to Al, it's not simply about toughness. Sometimes discretion and compromise are called for. Not seeing the bigger picture, Al thinks he's won a skirmish with Sheridan, when he's probably begun a war.

Jimmy certainly has better judgment than Al, but he hasn't quite realized yet that the criminal life he's leading can have awful consequences for those around him. Thanks to Al's heedlessness, Pearl ends up with her face sliced to ribbons. Of course Jimmy could not have known that would happen, but he may come to realize that turning into a real gangster is not a solution to his problems -- that choice has created a new set of problems, not just for him but for the people around him. It's caused a rift with Nucky, and now it's just about ruined Pearl's life.

For Nucky and Jimmy, the criminal life is turning out to be both more and less than they expected.

Margaret Schroeder, on the other hand, is still seduced by the lives led by Nucky and Atlantic City's elite. But for Nucky, his "surprise" birthday party isn't really a surprise, it's one more round of glad-handing while wearing a plastered-on smile, one more reason to curse lax servants, one more round of arm-twisting with fellow politicians who could help bring federal dollars to his area. It's work, in other words.

But to Margaret, the party is a magical place, one where she gets to have current-events conversations with tuxedo-clad potentates, see how the high and mighty live and even take a spin around the dance floor. She can, for a few minutes, feel like Princess Anastasia. Of course, later, that magical feeling is gone, but she swipes a silky item from the dress shop where she works, desperate to keep a scrap of something fine and magical in her life.

Expectations seem to be one of the themes of this show -- and what happens when expectations and aspirations meet with the cold, hard truths of reality. Chalky is well aware of what he's had to sacrifice to get where he is; he's a realist and that allows him to survive.

Jimmy's just started to realize how much he may have to give up to get the life he sees Nucky leading. And he still has little or no idea of what that life costs Nucky in worry and pressure.

Saintly Margaret Schroeder tries to be a good person, but her life is full of workaday worries and cares. She may not expect the good life, but she's willing to sacrifice a little of her virtue to at least get a glimpse of it. But once a person has started tasting the fruits of ill-gotten gains, where does that path lead? She came her for a better life, after all, not the same old dull drudgery.

For Nucky, "success" has led to a place of isolation and quiet sadness. He's acquainted with the entire world, but he has no real friends. And in the smart, capable Mrs. Schroeder, he sees a a glimmer of a real relationship. Most of his life consists of artifice, appearances and dealmaking, but surely he's wondering at this point if there's more to it than that.

New Show And Dedicated Site Will Premiere On Sunday, Sept. 26, 7 P.M. ET

CBS) For the first time, "60 Minutes" will have its own Web site programmed entirely with originally produced content. The new site, "60 Minutes Overtime" (60MinutesOvertime.com), will launch on Sept. 26, 2010, the same evening as the 43rd season premiere of "60 Minutes."

Each week, "60 Minutes" will produce three original stories derived from the broadcast's weekly television segments and from its enormous archive. Story elements will be shot and produced exclusively for the online audience, who will be taken behind the scenes where they see the process of producing stories and get the perspective of "60 Minutes" correspondents and staffers.

One of the online segments will be promoted with an announcement during the Sunday telecast that directs viewers to 60MinutesOvertime.com. The site will also have enhanced feedback and social media sharing capabilities, which will contribute to a growing "60 Minutes" fan base on Facebook.

"60 Minutes" Executive Editor Bill Owens will oversee the programming of the site, working with the broadcast's Executive Producer Jeff Fager and staff members to produce extra multimedia content each week.

Chris Biscuiti: I still don't understand why the most prestigious title in the company had to be vacant for two months, especially when every other storyline in TNA seems to get super-accelerated so that months of storylines are packed into two or three weeks of shows. With that said, there has been a solid build to this match, especially between Anderson and Angle. Jeff Hardy seems to be the odd man out here, and what I would love to see is Anderson finally reveal he's been playing a long con the whole time. that he really is a full-fledged "Asshole", and that he played with everyone's head to get what he truly wanted: the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. I think Anderson pins Hardy for the title, leaving Angle a loophole to get out of his extremely poorly handled self-imposed "leave-TNA-if-he-loses" stipulation, and that's all I got to say about that.

Matthew Michaels: I guess with TNA's track record, I should predict that Kurt loses and then disregards the stipulation and comes back next week. But I'll use logic instead.

Raffi Shamir: So TNA has to either give us the most predictable outcome ever, not that in this case predictable means wrong, or once again they go back on a major stipulation. Jeff Hardy is there as enhancement talent but I don't think TNA is stupid enough to put the belt on someone who still in the middle of a criminal case. The winner will be either Angle or Anderson. I still don't like Anderson. I mean, seriously don't like him and I can't understand what people see in him. But him winning will be a change and something refreshing. Angle on the other hand, is much better IMO, but him winning will be same old same old. Since this is TNA, the choice between refreshing and old is obvious. Plus there's the whole "Win or quit" thing.
Winner: Kurt Angle.

The 2010 BCS standings are the backbone of college football right now, and ESPN will reveal each week's rankings on a live Sunday show. This is a move that may frustrate some fans of college football, and it seems that ESPN is taking full advantage of the monopoly they now have on the announcement. It is unclear exactly how the show will play out, but the first part will be on ESPN, with the second part shown on ESPNU. Those who don't have ESPNU could then potentially be left in the dark about what is taking place until it is posted on the Internet somewhere.

According to ESPN, the weekly Bowl Championship Series standings will be announced on Sunday starting at 5:15 p.m. PT (8:15 p.m. ET). The first 45 minutes of the show will be on ESPN, and then the show will finish up with 30 minutes over on ESPNU. ESPN also revealed that the show won't just be about the latest BCS standings, but also discussion of the standings, interviews with coaches and players, a segment on the players vying for the Heisman Trophy, and of course important upcoming games. It's a lot to pack into 75 minutes, but it could end up being quite interesting for die-hard fans.

The first rankings are due out on Sunday, Oct. 17, at which point we will get our first look at how the computers are ranking the best teams in college football. On Oct. 10, they will be airing a preview show to give fans a look at how the show will be presented, and probably get viewers used to the odd time slot. Hopefully when they get to the revelations of the weekly BCS standings on the 17th, they do it right away, and don't make us wait around like how LeBron James wasted so much time before he got to the point.

According to the site the best way to carve the pumpkin is the following:

1. To get started, you need to cut either the top or bottom out of the pumpkin. (We recommend the bottom...) This is necessary so that the "guts" can be removed. Remove all the seeds and loose pulp and use the scraper or spoon to clean the inside surfaces of the pumpkin.
2. Scrape the inside area of the pumpkin where the pattern will be carved to make the shell about 1 inch thick. Try to keep this uniform, so that the effect will work properly.
3. Dry the pumpkin skin with a towel so that the tape will stick.
4. At this point, if you are using transfer paper to trace the pattern on the pumpkin, tape the pattern to the back of the transfer paper, making sure that the transfer side is facing away from the pattern.
5. Tape the paper pattern onto the pumpkin. Tape top and bottom first, sides next. Then it usually is necessary to crease the pattern a little to tape the corners. Be sure to put your creases in a place where the pattern will be distorted the least. Tape all the way around the pattern to ensure a good transfer.
6. Next, trace the pattern on the pumpkin using either the poker or a pen. If using the poker, poke holes around all the lines about 1/8 inch apart.
7. If using transfer paper, trace over the pattern firmly with the pen to trace the lines.
8. Be sure to trace around all the lines of both the black areas (holes), and the grey areas (peels). If using a red pen, it is easier to see where you've been.
9. Remove the pattern. If using a poker, re-trace the lines using a pen, or even better, Sharpie markers. I use a black marker around the "holes" and a red marker around the "peel" sections. Refer to your second pattern if you get confused.
10. Cut out all the "holes" first, smallest to largest, using the precision saw. Leave the cut out parts in the holes until all the holes have been cut out. This aids in stability during the sawing.
11. Carefully remove all the cut out pieces from the holes.
12. Use the Speedball linoleum cutters, wood chisels, or other peeling tools in the grey "peel" areas, removing the skin an about 1/2 inch of the flesh. Remove all the skin from the grey areas in this way. Finish peeling the flesh to a uniform 1/2 inch deep in all the grey areas. You can also use the clay tools at this time to clean up the peeled areas.
13. Finish carving the finishing touches on the pumpkin in the dark with a candle or light inside. This helps you see the final effect while touching up areas that were not done cleanly during the previous steps.
